Richard Sharman – The Joy of Nature – Field and Camera Craft
21st October 2024 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

The overall aim of Richard’s talk is to help photographers improve their success / keeper rate from nature photography with things he wishes he had known 10 years ago! He will look principally at behaviour and activity, demonstrating mannerisms and behaviours of UK creatures all taken in their natural environment including: the breeding lifecycle of birds, birds in flight, animals, amphibians, insects and butterflies, and macro images. Using his ARPS project – “The Breeding Life Cycle of the Great Crested Grebe” he shows the importance of understanding the behaviour of each creature which the photographer is seeking to capture.
Technical aspects of his talk will contain information for all levels of experience from inexperienced to advanced :-
– Understanding the importance of light and how it impacts on the sensor,
– How to control light within your camera – The Exposure Triangle,
– The importance of the in camera light meter and histogram,
– Controlling depth of field and the importance of it,
– Understanding sharpness.
