Take Your Photography to New Heights

Join Mid Sussex Camera Club. Discover What You Can Achieve

Are you a photographer wishing to develop your photographic skills? You may be just starting out in photography or a seasoned enthusiast.  Wherever you are on your journey, if you want to develop your interest, we may be the place for you. We are a friendly & inclusive group of circa 85 people passionate about photography.

The club is based in Burgess Hill. We meet on Monday evenings, from 7:30 pm to 9:30pm, from September to April. Membership for the season costs £50.  The club offers many photography-related activities, as well as some purely social events. All activities are optional allowing members to take part in the elements of the programme that interest them.

Club Activities

Member Content

These are the main activities of Mid Sussex Camera Club

External Speakers

We invite circa 15 photographers, each accomplished in their chosen genre, to talk around a selection of their images with the purpose of us learning the 'How and the Why' of their work

Monthly Competitions

There are 6 ranking competitions each season, scored by an external judge, the results of which are cumulative on a league table basis. Competitions are for both digital and printed images. The leagues are split into ability classes with promotions each season.

Internal Workshops

Each season we devote some evenings to internal events where we share knowledge and technical skills. These evenings have featured image mounting, post-processing, portraiture, and close-up photography.

Standalone Competitions

During each season there are 3 non-ranking competitions. These have outright winners based on the individual images submitted for that competition, judged by an external judge. Themes often include 'Sussex', 'Nature', or 'Panel'. The finale of the season is the 'Picture of the Year' competition.

External Competitions

Affiliated with the Surrey Photographic Association (SPA), The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) and The Regnum Crouch Group. These provide access to competitions each year, giving members' images a wider audience and a higher level of competition.

Inter Club Competitions

We take part in competitions with local clubs. The main event is with the 6 co-member clubs of the Regnum Crouch Group. This allows MSCC to pitch our best Digital and Print images against these clubs. There are two competitions, one Digital, and one Print.

A collection of documents, notices, how-tos and recordings of speaker lectures. Access requires that you log in as a member.

Notice Board & Forum

The place to find the latest MSCC news about the club and activities, and share opinions and ideas.

Event Recordings

Catch up on missed meetings or refresh your memory through these recordings of some of the Zoom Events from 2020 and 2021.

Print Mounting

Some thoughts and and two videos covering mount cutting and image mounting.

External Events

During the summer months small group outings are arranged with a member with knowledge of a particular photography location, for example Pulborough Brooks. In the main these outings are mid-week, with the occasional weekend event.

Special Interest Groups

There are three groups currently. For more information log in and head to the page.

The Portrait Group meets on the 3rd Friday of each month, from October to April. Each meeting features a guest model (male or female) with studio lighting.
