How was Ian’s judging for you? Did his comments seem appropriate to your image? Did you feel the marks awarded were appropriate and reflected his comments? Is Ian a judge you think we should have back?
I thought overall he was quite fair, bit harsh on some entries, he didn’t like mine much but at least I didn’t get the lowest score of the evening 🙂 Didn’t agree with some of his judgements but did with most of the others. I would be ok to have him back again..
I thought Ian was really helpful with his comments and I really liked the fact that he gave a range of scores, although I thought some scores were a bit harsh and inconsistent with what he said. Some of his comments surprise me, in particular the one about saying somebody must’ve had a good camera to take the photograph … I’m sure the skill was with the photographer and not the equipment ! I would be happy to have him back again.
I have to admit to sharp intake of breath on many occasions during Ian’s judging due to surprise at the scoring. I wasn’t expecting to get more than about 14 for mine and he gave me 18 (not that I’m complaining) I thought he was harsh on some of the scoring after his comments but all in all I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
I need to firstly say I have known Ian for 10 years. He was helpful for the club and intermediate classes with good advice and generous scores. I broadly agreed with his advanced comments as we are encouraging all judges to reward creativity and a different view rather than the standard view most of us take at a location. We sometimes forget that judges are asked to mark between 10 and 20 and we should expect some 11’s 12’s etc. Its a pity more judges don’t follow the guidance. It does open up our internal leagues.
