SUMMARY:Portrait Group
DESCRIPTION:An informal meeting to socialise and hopefully take some good portraits. It’s also a good way to learn how to use lighting set ups and how to work with models if at some point you would like to progress to set up your own sessions in the future. \nWe aim to start shooting at 8pm and finish around 10pm\, cost is £15 per session which includes a break for refreshments around 9pm or when there’s a suitable break in proceedings. The upcoming model is usually published on the website and on Facebook to give attendees an idea of who they will be shooting and to give suggestions for outfits etc. \nThe evenings are organised by Keith Lee who can be contacted either by email at portrait@midsussexcamera.club or on the club Facebook page\, if you would like to attend a session.

DESCRIPTION:Linda is a creative photographer with multiple RPS Fellowships whose aim is to achieve a soft painterly effect in her work and to capture the essence of her subject. In her own words :- \n“I am always looking for new ways to move my photography forward; I love a painterly effect and enjoy experimenting with different techniques. During my presentation I will be going through In-Camera Creative Techniques and sharing some ideas to explore with your own photography\, including ICM\, multiple exposures and using blending modes\, both in-camera and Photoshop.” \nShe will then take us through her two Fellowship panels\, explaining how she came up with the ideas and how she put the images into a cohesive\, successful panel.

SUMMARY:Steve Hedges LMPA LRPS - Creating Impact and Mood (following daytime workshop for interested members)
DESCRIPTION:Steve Hedges has been a professional photographer for around 30 years ago venturing into public relations and commercial photography\, portraiture\, weddings\, landscape and nature achieving distinctions with with the Master Photographer’s Association and the Royal Photographic Society. He has been regularly shortlisted in several outdoor photographer of the year competitions and British Wildlife photographer of the year competitions\, most recently in in 2022. He now specialises in running landscape\, wildlife and general photography courses over the UK. \nThis talk focuses on how to create an image that really has the ‘wow’ factor. An image with impact and mood. Steve will be showing us a series of before-and-after pictures with the after picture being a big improvement over the before picture. This helps emphasise the importance of thinking about what you want to achieve before hitting the shutter release. He will then look at the thought process behind creating a great picture and the various techniques to help achieve that aim.

SUMMARY:Ken Scott's headline presentation sharing his instinctive approach to experiential and responsive light and landscape photography
DESCRIPTION:Having evolved as a landscape photographer in the mountains of the UK Ken has discovered that experiencing a place fully leads to meaningful photographs following naturally. He has taught himself to “respond to the rhythms of the land and the light\, working instinctively with the landscape and intuitively with simple cameras\, inspired by the work of the late and great Galen Rowell.” referring to his own brand of ‘mountain light’ photography as “Touching the Light”. \nDuring his talk\, Ken will be sharing with us some principles and stories for BEING in the landscape\, for becoming attuned to light\, for following our own flow as a photographer. He will also be busting a few myths along the way….Landscape photographers always research and find the best locations\, wait for the light\, set up a heavy tripod and wait\, right? Not right. This talk is about travelling light\, getting off the beaten track and responding to what is happening\, in the moment\, right here above your head. We will be seeing images from the UK\, the Pyrenees\, southern Spain\, North America\, tplus some more intimate nature studies made as part of Ken’s ongoing Project Infinity.

SUMMARY:Edward Hyde - Making Sense of the Landscape - the Art of Seeing
DESCRIPTION:Ansell Adams is quoted as saying that “Landscape photography is the supreme test of the photographer\, and often the supreme disappointment.” This quote is extremely apposite. We can travel to a destination that holds the potential to deliver great images but\, if the lighting and weather are not “right”\, then we do not have any images\, ……… or do we? \nIn this talk Eddie will give us his personal take on how to meet the challenges of landscape photography. It explores what makes a satisfying and artistic landscape image. How do we find compositions\, what are the best lighting conditions\, and do we have any options for when the conditions are not “ideal”? He will also discuss the challenge of finding compositions in less obvious places but where we stand more chance of getting an image that has not already been photographed a thousand times: an image that is truly our own.  With that in mind\, the principal themes are :- \n·      Composition (How Much of what you can see should you include in an image)\n·      Lighting and weather and options for variations (Right Place at the Right Time)

DESCRIPTION:An informal meeting to socialise and hopefully take some good portraits. It’s also a good way to learn how to use lighting set ups and how to work with models if at some point you would like to progress to set up your own sessions in the future. \nWe aim to start shooting at 8pm and finish around 10pm\, cost is £15 per session which includes a break for refreshments around 9pm or when there’s a suitable break in proceedings. The upcoming model is usually published on the website and on Facebook to give attendees an idea of who they will be shooting and to give suggestions for outfits etc. \nThe evenings are organised by Keith Lee who can be contacted either by email at portrait@midsussexcamera.club or on the club Facebook page\, if you would like to attend a session.

DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, Ian will be taking us on 3 photographic walks across London. As we go through the routes we will look at some key locations\, types of subject\, opportunities along the way and see images taken. There will be source material for the club or individuals to reproduce and actively engage in a photo walk if they wish or just enjoy the images from across the capital. Ian’s talk will offer photographers a way to be more adventurous and explore the city with a structured and planned approach but without the need to adhere rigidly to the routes. Travel information\, access difficulties and where to avoid\, and duration are all considered. The talk as a whole is aimed at helping us as photographers to develop our style\, take images we like and enable us to move towards being the photographer we want to be.

SUMMARY:Caroline Preece - Minimalism
DESCRIPTION:Although she did not pick up a camera until 2013\, Caroline grew up surrounded by photo books — Michael Kenna\, Brassaï\, Henri Cartier-Bresson — and those images left a mark. Their influence still shapes how she sees: simplicity\, balance\, and storytelling. A relationship break-up was the push that finally got her started in photography and what began as a distraction quickly turned into a passion. Her work has been recognised in competitions including the Minimalist Photographer of the Year\, the International Photography Awards\, the British Photography Awards\, and Landscape Photographer of the Year. It has also appeared in FRAMES Magazine and has been exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London. \nThe aim of Caroline’s talk is to help us understand what minimalism is\, that the genre is a lot broader than we might first think and that we can apply it to any genre of photography. It looks at how some minimalism concepts can improve our non-minimalistic images; and encourage us to go out and have a go at photographing in this manner. She will explore the history of minimalism in art and photography\, examples of different approaches to minimalism\, common characteristics of minimalist images\, how the principles can be applied to any genre and the impact of negative space.

It’s also a good way to learn how to use lighting set ups and how to work with models if at some point you would like to progress to set up your own sessions in the future. \nWe aim to start shooting at 8pm and finish around 10pm\, cost is £15 per session which includes a break for refreshments around 9pm or when there’s a suitable break in proceedings. The upcoming model is usually published on the website and on Facebook to give attendees an idea of who they will be shooting and to give suggestions for outfits etc. \nThe evenings are organised by Keith Lee who can be contacted either by email at portrait@midsussexcamera.club or on the club Facebook page\, if you would like to attend a session.
